ABOUT あらすじ
1885年の正式な移民で始まったハワイへの日本人の移民。日本の海外移民はハワイから始まりました。苦労の末にハワイの地に根を下ろた一世。
そしてそんな両親のもと、ハワイで生まれた二世達にも大きな苦難が待ち受けていました。それは、悲しむべき第二次世界大戦での功績と犠牲です。
しかし本作は、単なる戦争映画ではありません。二世が目の当たりにしたプランテーション時代の様子。
「親はどこから来て何をしていたのか」
「自らのサトウキビ労働の様子」
「当時どんな家に住んでいたのか」
「家の中ではどんな言葉を使っていたのか」
「二世たちに流行った遊びはどのようなものだったのか」
「日系社会にあった沖縄人への差別はどうだったのか」
「HAPA（ハーフ等の意）への差別はあったのか」
そして
「真珠湾攻撃の時の様子、民間人の被害や日系人への暴力等はどうだったのか」
「戦争時の一番の記憶は何なのか」
「戦争後の活躍はどんなものなのか」
「現在、何を思っているのか」
など、多岐にわたります。
1920～30年代のまだプランテーション時代を色濃く残した時代を過ごした二世の記憶をすべて証言した貴重な作品です。
Japanese immigrants to Hawaii began with formal in 1885. Japanese overseas immigrants began in Hawaii. Issei have lifted a roots into the land of Hawaii after the hardship.
And under such parents, the great sufferings awaited the second generation who was born in Hawaii. It is a sorrowful achievement and sacrifice in World War II.
But this movie is not only the war movie. A state of Plantation era when Nisei witnessed.
This is a valuable movie left behind all the memory of the Nisei.
